A 4G mobile signal booster acts by receiving signals in the transmit and receive bands of cellular networks from a base station and then re-transmitting them, typically at a higher power. The goal of these devices is to improve the signal strength received by a cell phone in low signal strength areas - so the booster may be placed a little higher up or in part of the house/building where the signal can be received better, and the cellphone may normally be in an area of worse reception. Note that the quality of the signal (error rate) might not be improved. The cellphone receives the boosted signal and responds to it towards the booster, which in turn rebroadcasts back towards the cellular network.
