The difference between a repeater and a router

We often come into contact with repeaters and routers when using the Internet, but many friends are curious about the difference between repeaters and routers? In fact, the main differences between them are:
1. The working locations are different. The router works on the network layer, while the repeater works on the physical layer.
2. The design protocols are different. The protocols involved in routers usually include IP, IPX, and OSPF, while the protocols involved in repeaters include EIA/TIARS-232, EIA/TIARS-449, and V.35.
3. The router is usually a network node itself, while the repeater can amplify the signal.
4. The repeater is just a signal relay device, mainly used for amplifier signal. Since all kinds of transmission lines have corresponding distance restrictions, for example, the twisted pair is 105 meters, and the shortest optical fiber is only 500 meters. If the distance between two communication points exceeds the allowable range of the line, a repeater is required for forwarding. In the past, the hub was used the most, not only for relaying, but also for connecting multiple terminals.
5. The router is an information forwarding identification device. When an information packet enters the router, the routing system will determine which link to forward it to, or which network to forward it to, according to its target IP address, that is, the router is a network that connects multiple networks. (or other network) node devices. Of course, the router is an active device and also acts as a relay in terms of signal strength.
