An indoor phone signal booster works by re-transmitting signals, usually at a higher power, that are received in the transmit and receive bands of cellular networks from a base station. The purpose of these devices is to increase the signal strength that a cell phone receives in low signal strength areas. As a result, the booster may be installed a little higher up or in an area of the house or building where the signal can be picked up better, while the cellphone may typically be in a location with poorer reception. Keep in mind that the signal's quality (error rate) might not be enhanced. The cellphone receives the strengthened signal and transmits a response back to the booster, which then broadcasts the response back to the cellular network.
